When many people hear the words Pocono Mountains, they associate the region with the winter season of skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, sitting by a lodge fireplace, or spending a honeymoon or romantic weekend there. However, there is probably just as much, if not more, to do during the warmer months. Hike, bike, swim, tube, whitewater raft, fish, sightsee, or ride, slide, and climb through the Pocono adventure parks and water parks.

The Pocono Mountains actually have an incredible eight state parks:

Hickory Run. One of the state's most diverse parks, featuring unique geology, varied landscapes, 40 miles of hiking trails, and a beautiful waterfall. Boulder Field is truly a sight to behold.

Lehigh Gorge. Features the magnificent 26-mile Lehigh Gorge Trail, beautiful waterfalls, and world-class rafting along the Lehigh River corridor.

Promised Land. Promised Land has two scenic lakes, almost 50 miles of trails, and is one of Pennsylvania's most popular campgrounds.

Gouldsboro. Forests and wetlands surround a 250-acre lake. It is known for birdwatching, its diverse habitat, and its peaceful setting.

Prompton. Centered around the 290-acre Prompton Lake, Prompton State Park offers boat launches, 26 miles of hiking trails, and one of Pennsylvania's most popular disc golf courses.

Beltzville. Consists of 949 acres featuring boating, swimming, and over 20 miles of scenic shoreline.

Big Pocono. Covering 1,036 acres of rugged terrain on the summit and slopes of Camelback Mountain, Big Pocono offers spectacular views stretching across three states.

Tobyhanna. Protected forests, wetlands, and the serene 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake sit atop the Pocono Plateau. The park's trail system even connects to neighboring Gouldsboro State Park, creating an outstanding hiking experience.

Seven Beautiful Beaches in the Mountains

The Pocono Mountains also feature an amazing seven beaches, all surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. These include Beltzville State Park (Lehighton), Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (Bushkill), Gouldsboro State Park (Gouldsboro), Hickory Run State Park (White Haven), Mauch Chunk Lake Park (Jim Thorpe), Palmyra Township Public Beach on Lake Wallenpaupack (Hawley), and Promised Land State Park (Greentown).

It is hard to believe there are so many beautiful beaches to enjoy in such a mountainous region, making the Poconos a true four-season destination.
